Paul Franklin Watson, the controversial founder of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, is a multifaceted man. This Canadian environmentalist is a radical activist, a man of the sea, a reality television star, and a fugitive of justice. From now on, Paul Watson may also be known as an old-fashioned romantic at heart.

Despite being the subject an INTERPOL Red Notice issued after he fled Costa Rica in order to avoid facing felony charges of reckless endangerment at sea, Paul Watson got married this Saturday, February 14^th in France. Mr. Watson has chosen the French Republic as his home in exile, where he has resided since 2012 after several months spent eluding arrest. Earlier today, Mr. Watson shared a Facebook update announcing his nuptials:

Today I married an incredibly wonderful, beautiful, creative, passionate and very compassionate woman. Yana Rusinovich is now my wife. We were married by the Major of the IV Arrondissement of Paris.

The dazzling Ms. Rusinovich is an opera singer from Russia. Her engagement to Mr. Watson was announced in August of 2014.

This is Mr. Watson’s fourth visit to the altar. According to Mr. Watson’s page on Wikipedia: His first wife, Starlet Lum, was a founding director of Greenpeace Quebec, Earthforce!, Project Wolf, and Sea Shepherd. His second wife, Lisa Distefano, a former Playboy model, was Sea Shepherd’s Director of Operations during the Makah anti-whaling campaigns in Friday Harbor. His third wife, Allison Lance, is an animal rights activist and a volunteer crew member of Sea Shepherd.

News of the Mr. Watson’s marriage to Ms. Rusinovich on Valentine’s Day have spread like wildfire across online social networks. This wedding is indicative of a far more stable life in France for Mr. Watson, whose past experiences avoiding capture by law enforcement include being attacked by ferocious wasps in a Tongan island and failing to get high by drinking the sedative plant kava.
