Spirit Airlines inaugurated today the new flight connecting Orlando, Florida, US to San Jose, Costa Rica, this flight duplicates the number of seats available in this route.

In the last three months of the year Spirit will handle this route with commercial planes Airbus A320 with 182 seats and A319 with 145 seats. This means that in the last trimester of the year the new flight will add an approximate 12,728 seats to the 13,800 already offered by other airlines.

“We are excited to expand our service in Costa Rica” said Matt Klein, Commercial Director of Spirit Airlines, “Connecting the area of Orlando to San Jose will bring together families and friends and will offer more connections to other destinations in the Spirit network through the United States”.

The Minister of Tourism, María Amalia Revelo, explained that the expectation of the Costa Rican Tourism Board is that “the arrivals to Costa Rica increase from different points of the United States connecting through Orlando using Spirit, and also the increase in the number of Costa Rican tourists traveling to Orlando and connections”.

The North American market continues to be the main market for Costa Rica. 2017 saw a total 1,199,241 international arrivals from the United States. While this 2018, between January and June, there were 813,321 arrivals from this country, an increase of 5.7% in comparison to the same period of the previous year. The United States represents a market of 24 million potential clients.

The new flight has a frequency of four times a week during this first month, increasing to five starting November 8.

Spirit has been operating in Costa Rica for over ten years and has regular flights from the Juan Santamaria International Airport to Fort Lauderdale, however, due to the demand for direct flights to Orlando the company chose to offer this new alternative.
