The low-cost airline Spirit, announced today the expansion of its operations in the Orlando International Airport, included in the new routes announced is a direct flight connecting Orlando, Florida with San Jose, Costa Rica.

The route will be inaugurated October 5th and it will have a frequency of four times a week during the first month, increasing to daily services by November 8.

Spirit has been operating in Costa Rica for over ten years and has regular flights from the Juan Santamaria International Airport to Fort Lauderdale, however, due to the demand for direct flights to Orlando the company chose to offer this new alternative.

In total, Spirit added international service from Orlando International Airport (MCO) to 11 new destinations in Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as 3 more domestic routes. This is one of the largest expansions in the history of Spirit Airlines.

“We have been proud to serve Orlando for 25 years, and after more than doubling service last year, we are so proud to be expanding there yet again,” said Bob Fornaro, Spirit’s Chief Executive Officer. “Orlando is now one of our largest markets, and we have no plans on stopping our growth. The region is not only a wonderful, family-friendly destination, but it is well-positioned to now serve as a gateway to the Caribbean and Latin America.”

Roundtrip tickets will have a cost of close to $350.00, fare that will vary depending on the time of the year and will increase depending on additional services or commodities requested by clients.
