A 70-year-old U.S. man, identified as William M. Nearhoff, was found dead in the apartment he lived in in the neighborhood Barrio Latino, Grecia, Alajuela the afternoon of this Monday, July 2nd.
According to the information offered to us by the Judiciary Investigative Police (OIJ) , the man had hands and feet tied and a bruised wound on his head, Nearhoff was a retiree who moved from Texas and had been living in Costa Rica for over 13 years and was well-known in his neighborhood.
OIJ arrested a woman of last names Jimenez Esquivel and a man of last name Montoya Acosta as suspects of this crime.
The investigation by OIJ concluded that Nearhoff met Jimenez in a bar in Grecia several days before his death where they agreed to meet again on Sunday evening. A security camera caught the couple as they got out of a cab and entered the victim’s apartment. Some time later, two men enter the apartment and shortly after the woman leaves the apartment carrying a large package (What looks to be a flat screen TV) then the two men also leave.
The body was found by neighbors who accessed the apartment on Monday afternoon concerned because the radio had been on high volume since Sunday night and there was no answer by Nearhoff.
