The third date of the Costa Rica Touring Car Championship takes place this Saturday at Parque Viva.

The 150km (93 miles) Shell Cup is happening on the night of Saturday, May 13 when 15 professional drivers will participate in the endurance competition that starts at 5 p.m. in what is known as “Circuito Sur” in Parque Viva, the track has been illuminated with 23 mobile light towers.

“Last year we had only 8 light towers, but we added more this year for the benefit of both the drivers and the attending public, we want it to be a good show”, stated Pablo Otero, manager of competitions at Circuito Grupo Sur.

The activities at Parque Viva will begin at 2 p.m. with the free practice for the Yaris Cup, while the classifications start at 2:50 p.m. both for Yaris Cup as well as CTCC competitors. Those attending will also be able to enjoy two super bikes exhibits, in the 300,600 and 1000 CC categories.

In the event of rain during a competition, pilots will have to go to their respective pits to change the tires and competition will resume.

Tickets are available online at www.boleteria.cr and have a cost of between ¢6.000 and ¢11.000.

During the CTCC Endurance competition drivers will be allowed only one five-minute stop at the pits for any adjustments such as fuel and switch of tires. 150 km is equivalent to 75 laps, this type of competition tests the resistance of the car and its driver, this is the reason why it is done at night since the temperatures are lower.

The Yaris Cup involves 40 laps and a mandatory stop of just one minute.
