11 Tourists were robbed while they were rafting in the area of Dos Montañas, in the Pacuare River at around 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 10.

Apparently the group stopped to have a snack when 3 men with their faces covered threatened the tourists with firearms and took all their valuables including cell phones, cameras, cash and passports.

“Rafting companies usually make a stop in this area to eat some fruit. All the rafts park here because there is a backwater area. It’s difficult to access this area by foot which is why there is usually no one here”, explained the police authorities.

Nationalities of the tourists have not yet been disclosed.

Just last Thursday six tourists and their guides were also the victims of a robbery as they navigated in La Suerte River, in the area known as La Pavona in the Tortuguero Canals, Pococí, Limón.

The boat or canoe was traveling slowly due to the low levels of the water this time a year, when two men threatened them forcing the driver of the boat to bring it to the shore were the thieves took all their valuables, tablets, cell phones, a gold chain and cash.

The victims of this incident were four tourists from Israel and two German, along with two tourism guides and the boat driver all Costa Rican.
