According to field reports filed by the forensic section of the Office of Judicial Investigations (Spanish initials: OIJ), a 67-year old man from the United States passed away from massive trauma sustained after a tragic road traffic accident in Costa Rica.

The crash reportedly took place in the Osa Peninsula, which is located in the southern Pacific region of Costa Rica. More specifically, the accident occurred in the San Josecito sector of Uvita. Preliminary details of the OIJ investigation reveal that the departed US expat went by the last name of Kritzer.

At the time of the unfortunate event, Kritzer was a passenger in the vehicle driven by another US expat. The OIJ report indicates that the vehicle was driven by a 57-year old woman with a last name of Reinhard, who appears to be a legal resident of Costa Rica. The report continues:

“For reasons that have not yet been made clear, the driver lost control of the car, which veered completely off the road and precipitously fell down a hillside ravine, which has been estimated to be a 30-meter drop.”

According to a report filed by Juan Pablo Arias of online news daily Costa Rica Hoy, rescuers who arrived at the scene of the accident could not do anything for Mr. Kritzer, but they were able to transport the startled Ms. Reinhard to a nearby hospital, where she was later listed in stable condition. As is customary in these situations, Ms. Reinhard agreed to blood alcohol content testing; the results were negative.

Mr. Kritzer shuffled off this mortal coil right before sundown on a resplendent and seismic Good Friday afternoon. He left us at a time when many people take advantage of the religious holidays to visit prime tourists hotspots such as Uvita in the Osa Peninsula.
