The National Meteorological Institute (IMN) informed this morning that tropical wave #22 will be entering the country this Wednesday, increasing the rainfall over some areas of the country.

Throughout the morning and early hours of the afternoon rains of variable intensity with possible thunderstorm and isolated events of strong winds will be affecting the Caribbean and North Zone. While cloudy conditions could extend to the Central Valley in particular San Jose, Heredia and Cartago and the North of Guanacaste (La Cruz and surrounding areas).

“In the afternoon and late hours of the evening the forecast is of rains and storms in the Pacific; rainfall in the Central Valley as well as the mountains of the North Zone and Caribbean”, states the press release.

The IMN recommends precaution in areas vulnerable to floods, where rivers commonly overflow and areas prone to landslides.

The heavy rains that affected Turrialba and Limon in the past few weeks left many damages in infrastructure, road closures and over 1500 in shelters. The National Emergency Commission (CNE) has destined so far more than $1.4 million for the recovery of roads, bridges and humanitarian aid.

According to the President of CNE, Alexander Solis, close to $934,681.50 has been used in the rebuild of roads, bridges and basins on the areas of Valle de la Estrella and Talamanca while $493,794.00 correspond to to direct investments in the entire province of Limon for basic supplies and food. Through aerial operations they delivered 973 food portions to 35 indigenous territories.

“We have completed 20 hours of flights, 50% of which were financed with help of the United States Government through the Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance”, explained Solis.
