Faithful to its mission to assist those who require help at sea, the Costa Rican Coast Guard on Friday came to the aid of an American sailboat with mechanical problems in Panamanian waters near the Costa Rican border, reported the Public Security Ministry today.

Officers stationed at the Golfito Coast Guard station who were patrolling with the  SNG 82-3 patrol boat, the Juan Rafael Mora, traveled to the outskirts of Punta Burica on the border with Panama, when they noted the U.S. boat that was experiencing difficulties.

After establishing contact with the boat, the Mirage, they were informed that the crew was having problems with the transmission bar of the propeller, and thus were forced to sail at a very low speed.

On board the ship were two Americans – the captain, Charles Silvers, and a woman, Ann Silvers -and a Panamanian named Alexander Filenonomeir Green.

They were escorted by the Coast Guard to Golfito where they were all found to be in good health. The ship was then set to be repaired, after which the crew said they planned to continue their course towards Mexico, reported the ministry.
