Starting this Thursday, August 23, everyone will have easy access to enjoy Costa Rican art virtually through the website ArteCostaRica.cr.

This is the first Virtual Museum of Costa Rican Art, and includes works by artists from the XIX century and through the decade of 1970.

“Pincel Pinacoteca” (Paint Brush Art Gallery) is the result of the work of the University of Costa Rica’s professor emeritus María Enriqueta Guardia Yglesias, “this is a very important resource for the education of visual arts, anyone can access thousands of works by Costa Rican artists which they had no possibility of knowing before unless they visited the installations of a museum in San José. In addition, it is a great contribution to the investigations of Costa Rican art, since there are artworks that few know or have been because they are part of private collections”, commented Guardia in an interview with Gabriela Mayorga for the University of Costa Rica (UCR.ac.cr).

“There are over 20,000 artworks in this digital resource, which makes it the biggest archive of visual arts in the country; it includes the work of over 200 Costa Rican artists, visual arts, sculptures, artistic photography, graphic art, monuments and even emblematic edifications”.

The virtual museum will be officially launched August 23 at 7 p.m. in an event at the Costa Rican Art Museum in La Sabana.

“Pincel Pinoteca” will continue to grow its art archive.
