The eve of November 14 if the weather conditions help, we should be able to witness the super moon, a phenomenon in which the full moon appears up to 14% bigger and considerably brighter (around a 30% according to NASA); although there was another super moon just a few weeks back (October 16), this next one is expected to be the brightest ever in the 21st century, the last one was seen in 1948.

The super moon happens because the Moon has an elliptical orbit, one side, the perigree is about 30,000 miles closer than the other side (the apogee); when the full moon is in perigee, the closest point in the moon´s orbit to Earth. Because this time the moon becomes full just two hours from perigree that´s what makes this one special.

This year there will be yet another event of this kind in December 14, but the next one similar to the one this month is expected to take place November 25th, 2034.

If you want to witness this phenomenon, go to a high place such as an observatory deck or a place with a scenic view, in Costa Rica the event will likely be appreciated on the night of November 13.
