The National Emergency Commission in Costa Rica elevated form green to Yellow the alert given for the North and Central Pacific due to the strong rainfall, green alert was declared for the North Zone, Central Valley and South Pacific.

“During the first hours of this evening the Central Pacific has been affected, particularly the areas of Paquita, Parrita, Isla Damas , the Center of Puntarenas, Pitaya and Chomes, close to 707 people have been transferred to 12 shelters. The area of the Nicoya Peninsula has received over 350 mm of rain in two days making it a very vulnerable area. (The average for the month of October in this place is of 360 mm), informed the authorities

The district of Paquera is the area with highest affectation due to the overflowing of rivers. These sites are being evaluated by members of the Municipal Emergency Committee and local authorities. Two shelters were habilitated as preventive measure in this sector for the attention of the families that require temporary lodging.

The roads connecting Tambor and Paquera and Cobano to Paquera are temporarily closed as a result of the rivers overflowing.

Conditions and damages will be evaluated tomorrow by the National Emergency Commission.

The sectors of Nandayure, Bejuco, Coyote and Javillos were also affected.
